The speculation surrounding the recent awards show was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—qualities that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths that are viable by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously permissive, allowing players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
