The one-time leader was convicted of plotting a military coup in the ninth month and handed more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he remained under confinement pending legal challenges.
High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a precautionary step after recent developments came to light.
This encompassed trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a call for a demonstration that could enable a possible escape.
Court Filing Details Escape Concerns
In a paperwork permitting the detention, the judge said information from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the former leader's aim to disable the surveillance device to ensure success in his escape.
This, it said, would be "facilitated by the disorder caused by the gathering called by his son.
His son, Flávio Bolsonaro, who serves as a legislator, called for a meeting of his followers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday evening.
The senator wrote on online platforms on Friday: Will you battle for your homeland, or watch it all from your smartphone there on your couch? I urge you to battle with us."
He said the demonstration would be so followers could seek divine intervention for his physical condition and for the return of democracy in our land."
Embassy Asylum Concerns
Part of the judge's decision was the potential of his transfer to diplomatic missions near the residence, considering that the inquiries revealed a record of arranging to request asylum through a consular facility", a statement said.
The legal document highlights that the United States embassy in the federal district, Brazil's capital, is positioned around approximately 13 kilometers from his dwelling.
Worldwide Consequences
Bolsonaro's legal woes have generated frustration from fellow right-wing populist United States President Donald Trump, leading him to enact a half-rate duty on goods coming from Brazil.
The former president is being held in a federal law enforcement building in the capital and will experience a imprisonment assessment on the next day.
Recent Legal Requests
It was only on the previous day that the former president's lawyers asked the High Court to permit him to complete his entire prison term under house arrest, with electronic monitoring.
They also requested that Bolsonaro be allowed to leave his home for medical treatment, saying he demanded frequent medical attention for pulmonary infections and other ailments.
